I decided to take a little break and head outside to the garden to see what was flowering.
Another reason was to get away from a few paint fumes. My rather worn French door, which leads to the side door and basement of my home, needed some refreshing. I painted the door jamb as well, which only accentuates the woebegone state of the stairwell. Here's hoping the door will easily close and isn't "overdressed" with a new coat of primer and two of paint.
It's time to clean up the paint cans, brushes, and drop cloths and restore some order. This would not be the time for an unexpected guest to pop by, with the exception of you, of course!

my arbour, my harbour.

I have plenty of rose hips in my back garden, along with the
singing birds.
These New Dawn red spheres cover my blue arbour. They look rather straggly at this time of year, even when the sun shines. The canes, thorn-covered appendages, wave about in all directions as if to say, "Over here, Spring! Come over here!"
However,
with a little more sun
a little warm rain
and a few more months
(this is Canada, after all)
there will be a metamorphosis.
Patience.
The winter greys will pass.
Patience.
Colour and fragrance will return.
Patience.
They'll be a sky full of sunshine.
Patience.
There is still plenty to appreciate today.

It's difficult for me to imagine living in a place that enjoys year-round blooms.
My garden is resting, wrapped up in a white duvet of snow.
Meet my lilac tree, now and then.
The young magnolia, now and then.
The blue arbour with roses, clematis and nearby hydrangeas, now and then.The blooms will return, perhaps appreciated even more given their long absence. For now, I'll enjoy the snow. Mustn't wish my life away!I'm happy to be linking with Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.
