"Just Wait Until This Afternoon"

0

| In : , ,

Should I be knitting some little flower-sized sweaters?
There is a forecast for rain and snow over the next day or so.

Some flowers were lured by the unusually early spring warm and coaxed into blooming.

It may be time for them to curl up and reconsider their options.
.
As for me, I'm off to have lunch at a friend's home later this morning. I'd better find a cozy turtleneck sweater and choose between gloves or mittens. A few minutes ago, the meteorologist on the radio commented, "Just wait until this afternoon!"
Spring. It's full of surprises!

How are things with you?

A Few Blooms (and a Weed)

0

I'd say this tulip is about a month early.
There it is, half hidden by a weigela bush, but shining through with the cheery red petals.

Weedy patches sprout up now and again and I feel like I should have mastered how to deal with them at this point, in the garden and in life.

But, "spring has sprung", "hope springs eternal" and all that jazz!

After all, some magnolia trees were hit hard by our strange weather conditions, but my tree is starting to bloom. That bodes well for the future, wouldn't you say?

☀ Sunlit Sunday (#14): Spring in the Garden

0

Yesterday's post was about how I've started to house-hunt
Given that, I had better make a special point of enjoying my garden this spring.
(And catching the weeds early.)

While in a grocery store this morning,  I had a brief chat with a woman who was admiring the hyacinths. She picked up a pot for me to sniff and told me about the big purple blooms in her own garden.

This is a sight that makes me happy.
The shoot of a peony!
I imagine I'm not the only one whose affection for a particular plant is grounded in childhood memories.

The leaves may not look like much now, but tulips are another favourite, particularly when they dance in the breeze. This fondness may well relate to my youth in Ottawa and the magnificent Tulip Festival held every year.

Finally, the biggest blast of colour, right now, is the forsythia bush at the front of my home. It has a definite golden glow that suits my sunny mood.

Best Wishes to you on the occasions of Easter, Passover and Spring.

❀ Showing Promise

0

I was happy to find that my first colourful crocuses of the season have popped up in the garden. As well, the daffodil buds are getting plumper by the day.

As for the snowdrops tucked in a dark corner, how did I never notice them at this stage in previous years, with the beautiful green patterns on the white petaled backdrop? I really do think that blogging makes me look at things more closely.

The fuzzy magnolia buds (having dealt successfully with winter's snow) are showing promise, as are the sturdy tulip leaves that have poked through the earth and pushed their way through last year's mulch. There are no blasts of colour here, but time will change that.

After the struggle, comes the bloom.

Here's to spring arriving, officially, this week!

What do you love about the new season?
If you're on the other half of the world, feel free to comment on autumn!
